Euro 4

Euro IV or Euro4 is the emission standard for vehicles that was introduced in the European Community in 2005.

The maximum emissions proposed are:

  • for cars running on diesel oil: up to 0.25 g/km nitrogen oxides and 0.025 g/km
  • for cars running on petrol: up to 0.08 g/km nitrogen oxides
  • for heavy vehicles: up to 3.5 g/kWh nitrogen oxides and 0.02 g/kWh fine dust.
The reduction of the emission nitrogen oxides can be realised through selective catalytic purification (Selective Catalytic Reduction, SCR) (using AdBlue or another urea solution) or Exhaust Gas Recycling (EGR). The standard will be succeeded by the Euro V standard in 2008.
